countable to the select men ; and in case any col-

him, but shall fail ofcollecting such tax. accord-
ing to the terms of the warrant committed to

es to the warden, he shall issue his warrant, un-

shall, within the limits of said borough, have the
same powers, authorities, and privileges: and be

of duty, in any case whatever, to all intents and
purposes, as constables by law now have and are,

§ H. And all grants or leases of real estate, be-
longing to said borough, signed by the wardeii of
said borough, and sealed with the borough seal,
and approved by said borough, in legal meeting
assembled, shall be good and effectual in law, to
convey the estate intended to be conveyed by such
grant or lease; provided the same is recorded in
the records of the town where the lands ,i§t'£tntc(l
or leased lie; and that said borough shall have
power to appoint inspectors of ex cry kind Sol" pro-
duce of the U. States, brought to said borougli
for sale or exportation, and the vole or choice of

§ 12. And said borough shall have power, in
legal meeting assembled, to choose hay-wards,
and all other oflicers and inspectors, not enu-
merated in this act. which shall be necessary to
carry the by-laws of said bot-ougli into execution.

and regulate a fire company, and enlist a suflicieiit
number of firemen to fill the same; and in case
a sufiicient number cannot be enlisted, to appoint

and bugesses, bailiff, and clerk of said borough,
and inspectors of produce of the United States,
brought to said borough for sale or exportation,
shall be sworn to a faithful discharge oftheir du-
ty ; and the form ofthe oath to be taken by the,
warden anti bnrgesses, shall be as follows: You,
A. B. being elected warden, (or burgcss, as the
case may be) of the borough of Essex, do swear
you will faithfully and uprightly discharge the
duties of that office,'so long as you shall hold the
same; so help you God.
