Legislature of this state, are to be presented to

zens of his native state entertain for his valour
and accomplishments as a naval oflicer. The
‘workmanship of these tveupons rcllects credit not
only on the ingenious artists who made them, but
on the country in which they were produce(,l.f-
They are the most elegant specimens ofdomestic
manufacture, that we ever saw. The Scabbard
and handle ofthe sword are of pure gold, beauti-
fully wrought, with appropriate devices. The
most remarkable of these, is on a broad leaf of
gold, branching from the hilt, as a substitute fut‘
an ear. It represents the escape of the Consti-
tution from the British squadron, by which she
was pursued, on her pasgsage from lIICCllt7>zlj)C'.tl(C
to Boston. The blade is a cut and thrust, of the
modern plan, and is pronounced by those who ate
judges, to be as well tempered as the best Tole-
does. The Sword was nianal'actu:‘i:d l:.;.- Mr. Na-
than Starr, and the Pistols by Mr. ;\’-crtli, both of
Middletown, Connecticut. The amount of each
bill was $1000. VVe have not heard when they
will be presented.--Conn. Herald.

publish, it will be seen that ‘our. i.e‘gisl.-::.iii'e. at
their late session, passed an act lat‘ incorporating
a new town in this county. It is called Darien,
and is from that part of Stamford, known by the
mime of Middlesex. Stamford is allowed ‘two
representatives in the Assembly as usual,aud Da-
rien one.
Bonus.-—A resolution passed both houses of
the Legislature, auiliorising the trustees of the
Bishop's Fund, to raise the sum of3l5,000 by a
Lottery. No other lottery is, by the provisions
of this resolve, to be granted within five years.
\Ve understand the trustees have sold the grant
to a company of gentlemen in New-London, for
the sum of 10,000 dollars. _
T/ic L‘azv.nc/z.—-()n Tuesday morning, the 30th
tilt. at 11 o’clock, the ship of the line Onto, was
launched from the Navy Yard, at New-York. It
is supposed not less-than one hundr'ed thousand
persons witnessed the interesting sight; and as
the ship embraced her destined element, the air
resounded with the shouts of applause, and the
roar of cannon. The Ohio is considered by com-
petent judges to be superior to any vessel of her
class. Her dimensions are said to be 180 feet in
length, and of 2500 tons burthen. No accident
occurred. '
The ship Elizabeth, which carried otit the peo-
ple of color to Africa, arrived at Sherbro in 32
days from passage front New-York. The pas-
sengers were all left ingood health, and perfectly
satisfied with their situation.
The citizens of New-Orleans have been in a
continual state of alarm for some time past, in
consequence of an attempt that has been threat‘-
encd to rescue the Pirates, now confined thci'i-,
under sentence of death. The pirates had nu-
merous friends ; for several uigflits the city was
fired, and an old woman had presented herself at
the jail with a loaf of bread for tie p.ri.°.oners——
the jallor suspecting some tlesigii, opened the
leaf, and found in it a letter addressed to the pi-
rates, telling them to keep up good spirits.--tliiii
the city would be fired in twenty places, and ill-.tl
they should be rescued in less ilian three (lays.
In addition to the city guards, the tnayor has or-
dered thc citizens of every square to organize
themselves for their pi'ute-ctioii ; and Gen. liisscl
has ordered detachments of the regular army
from St. John’s and Baton Rouge to N. Oi'leans. ‘

the expedition tigaiiist Texas, and inchidcs in his
views the whole of New-l‘vlexico-. He has been
joined by Lafitte, the pirate, and it is said has a-
bout 5000 troops at Galvt-ztown, and has moreo-
yer obtained assistance froin the Venezeielizin
patriots, who l.ave sent him their fleet and admi
ral. VVe think this report quite doubtful.
Indian mm-t./1-r.--—A band of Shttwanee Indians
recently killed two persons at New—Madrid.(Mis-
souri.) The whites from the neighborhood wen
in pursuit, and although one was shot and slight-
ly wounded, they made their escape ; they how-
ever caught three of the party, who were notini-
mediately concerned in the murder. Three oth-
ers afterwards came in and agreed to deliver up
the murderers in four days, and that the prison-
ers should rcmain as hostages in the mean time.
But it was soon ascertained that they only want-
ed time to collect in force, and rescue their com-
panions without ceremony. The militia of the
county were oi'i.h:red out to guard them, and sci-
fious dtlliculty was apprehended. ‘
1'.-izzoanzz.-'-'I‘lie public mind at Havana is still
in a very unsettled state; many of the inhabit-
i-ants appear anxious that the Island should be
tleclared independent of Spain. On the night of
the 17th April, 37 officers of the army were ar-
rested there; the cause not known.
The Patrz'oz.s-..-—Boli\'er’s forces, on the Oren-
oke, is said to be in a very cllicient’ state, and his
forces increasing daily. He would commence
operations as soon as the rainy seasons were 0» er,
and will probably carry all before him.
The news of the revolution in Old Spain had
been received at Laguira, but the royal authori-
ities declined promulgating it, and the proclama-
tions were printcd by the merchants, and was re-
ceivcd with great joy by the people.
Accounts frorn Carraccas, mention that that
city was in a state of alarm and consternation, in
coiisequeticc of a general rising among the na-
lives, and an C.\:pct:tt:(l attack. All the troops in
the city were under arms.
King Ferdinand has promulgated a proclama-
tion to the inhabitants of South America. After
informing‘ them of the events in the Peninsula,
and while expatiziting on the blessings of Consti-
titutional liberty, which, with his accustomed

pean troops. besides a great portion of their na-
tive troops ; the Malays had also made priso-.‘.‘~ r
of the Coireriiot‘ of Minto, whose head they took
off, and sent it as a present to their Chief. The
Dutch Admit al had sense enough it seems, to ad-
vise his govelnmcnt to give up every"place. to
which they made pretensions, with the exception
of Java and the Moluccas.
The British have routed the pirates in the Per-
sian Gulf. The were strongly fortified; and af-
ter a resistance of six days, retreated into the
country, leaving 3'O'O killed and 700 w'oiinded.—-
The British had 50 killed and wounded.
The Isle of France is suffering uiitlcl‘ thiil
‘dreadful scourg'e, the Cholera Morbus, which Cd! -
ties off upwards of5'O daily.
At Constantiiiople, on the 13th Feb. a fire broke
‘out, which destroyed between 2 ant] 300 houses.
Loss estimated at eight or ten millions.

guilty of high treason, and been sentenced to be

any persons together in marriage, or of the clerk
of any religious society, according to the usages
of which, the marriage is performed by the dec-
lara:ion of the parties in open meeting, within
thirty days after said marriage, to lodge a certifi-
cate of the same with the Town Clerk of the town
in which such i‘narriage was performedé and it
shall be the duty of the town clerk to record said
certificate at full length in a book procured by
him for this purpose--for which service said
town clerk shall be entitled to receive twelve and
a half ‘cents from the person who shall lodge such
certificate for record. A copy of the record of
such ccrtil-icate, duly authenticated, shall be re-
ceived in evidence in all courts in this state.

son who shall hereaftcr join any persons together
in marriage, shall neglect or refuse to lodge a
certificate of such mai'ri-age with the town clerk
as aforesaid, within thirty days after the.celebra-
tion of such marriage, such person shall forfeit
and pay the sum of fifteen dollars, for the use of
the treasury of the town wherein such marriage
was perfot;nied.. And it shall be the duty of the
treasurer of such town lo prosecute the same to
effect. And in case the treasurer, after notice
that a marriage has been performed, and not re-
corded agreeably to this act, shall neglect to pros-
ecute for the aforesaid penalty, he shall forfeit
and pay the sum of seven '.lollars to any one who
shall sue therefor. .
