\Ve learn from the southern papers that we are
to trace the death of Comm. Decatur to the old
Chesapeake affair. The public are well aware
that that was a most flagrant outrage committed
by 0. Britain, while enforcing lier infamous sys-
tem of irn/iressirtg ./Inzericarz seamen. It thus ap-
pears that not only many thousands of our gallant
seamen have fallen victims to the system of Brit-
ish impressment, but that the loss of the brave
Decatur himself is to be traced to it I
Comm. Decatur fell in a duel with Comm. Bar-
ron,‘who commanded the Chesapeake frigate at
the time she was attacked by the Leopard. It is
said that Barron had applied to be reinstated in his
rank and emoluments. and to be appointed to the
command of the Columbus. Decatur opposed
his application, which gave offence to Barron --
A meeting was appointed on the celebrated
battle ground near Bladensburg. Comm. Rodg-
ers was the friend of Decatur, in whose arms he
was sustained from the field to his l‘€S-l(lCnCtf.—-
,_Capt. Elliott was the aid of Barron. They fought
with pistols at the distance of eight paces, and
both fell at the first fire. Decatur was shot t.hro’
the body, and Barron in the hip, the ball glancing
off. The latter is said to be severely, but not
dangerously wounded. It is said the affair was

Four persons were sentenced to death in the
Circuit Court at Cl‘.L\l‘lcSlt‘!l, on the 21st tilt. for
Pi,-acy, They are to be hung on the 12th of May.

Revolutionary Pensions.-I-At the last dates from
l Congress, the House of Representatives had been
tllq_Blll for amending the Revolution-
ary Pension Act. As it now stands, it requires
that the pensioners,afier the payment of that part
hicli became due the 4th March
shall exhibit to some court, on oath, a sched-
ule, containing his whole estate and income, (ex-
cepting liis necessary" clothing and bedding;)?a
copy of this schedule is to be sent to the Secreta-
ry of VVar, whoiis to cause to be struck from the
list, the namesof such persons, as in'his opinion
arefiot in such needy circumstances as to be un-
able to supportthemselves, without the assistance‘

The bill for establishing a uniform system of
Bankruptcy, has been rejected in the Senate of
the U. States.
On Thursday last, the Senate of New-York
passed a bill for the sttlement of Gov. Tompkins’
accounts, allowing him the sum of $11,800.
Casualties.-—On the nightof the 21st ult. a re-
spectable young man of Baltimore, in driving his
cart along the road in front of the COl)l’1lIYj«'1ils‘V4\5
precipitated over the rocks into the falls, andkil-
led, together with his horse. I
A negro woman, in diggingfor sand under a
projecting bank, at Baltimore, a few days a§;0a it
could be dugout, had expired.
