Penn; at 6 o’clcck on Sunday evening. the 2 lst‘-ulh
‘Its direction (says the Village Record) was from
N. E. to S. W. The tail was of great length and
brightness. and from the body the fire fused out
as it does from a large piece of burningiro'nZ-.-—
The streets were so light, that one bright havc
picked up 2. pin. it disappeared suddenly, aiitl
almost‘evt:ry person who saw it, ‘seemed confi-
dent that itfell "near him. In a minute anda half
or perhaps two minutes after the light ceased, a
sound like a ‘cannon was heard, coming from a di-
rection where the Meteor appeared to fall."
This Meteor was ‘seen’ at Wilmington at half
past 6',‘ moving majestically in‘ a southt'vesterly
direction ; and caused such a light, that a person
could read the smallest print. An explosion took
place about two minutes after, equal to tilt} inch
mortar. It was seen at a number of other plu-
ces ; and what is singular, every person who saw
it for the distance of 30 miles‘. thought it fell and
discharged at a short tlistance alter passing them.
The Franklin Gazette, states ‘that the Meteor
was seen by several persons in Philadelphia ; that
it was very large, and was accompanied with a
blue flame; and that'it appeared to- touch the
earth, rebound, ascend for aortic distance and fall
again. , ~ '
By the Baltimore papers, we learn that the
Meteor passed over that'city.,-" still»purstting' its
course from the North -East-to-South ‘Nest, and
increasing in its apparent size as it approached, t
