CLASS I.
T HE object for which this Lottery was grant-
ed by the Hon. General Assembly is well
known, and hardly needs any comment" ; howev-
er, for the more general information of such as
are not perfectly acquainted with the circumstan-
ces, the Managershave thought proper to ob-
serve that the Episcopal Society in Fairfield was
at the commencement of the revolutioiiar_\' war
blessed with a handsome Church, completely fin-
ished, and painted inside and out, with an elegant
set of plate. for the communion service, and a
handsome library; also, a large and elegant Par-
'soi_iage-House, with out-liouses, fences, Etc.
which were all destroyed by fire, or carried away
at the time the town of Fairfieltl was burnt, in
the year .1779 by the British troops tinder Tryon,
which so impoverished the society that they have
never been able to reinstate tliemselvcs ; and, as
all other_Ecclesiastical Societies. and intliticluais,
who suffered ‘losses by the enemy at that time,
have long since, in some’ nieasi_ire, been remu-
nerated by the Hon- Legislature; and attlieir
Spring Session, 1813, on the petition of the
\Vardens and Vestry of the Episcopal (lhui-ch
in Fain-field, to the Hon. General Assembly, they
granted a. Lottery that might, in some measure,
rer_nunera_'.e, them also for their so long omitted
claims; and the Managers having given bonds
to the State for the faithful discharge of their
trust, beg leave to offer the following Scheme,
which they confidently hope will meet the public
approbation.
