" EVV or none of the snulfs in ordinary use-
unite those advantages as an elegant sternu-
tatory, which Tobacco, combined with other in-
gredients, is capable of prod ging. The common
Scoth snuff is not only deiifitute of fine flavor,
but is universally allowed to be injurious to the
head and stomach, and sooner or later effects the
transparency, and colour of the skin. The coarse
black snuffs, instead of clearing and stimulating
the olfactory nerves, serve but to obstruct and
deaden them ; and in process of time, by stop-
ping the passages, has an evident effect upon the
speech. The Volatile Aromatic Snuf, will, by ex-
perience, be found not liable to these objections--
its flavor is fragrant and delightful-—the .eB'ect
pleasing and salutary-it opens and purges the
head—sensibly stimulates the spirits, and re-
moves that drowsiness which on some occasions
will prevail in spite of our utmost efforts to bafllc
it. By repeated experiments, it is known to be
of essential service to those who are troubled with -

far superior for thispurpose to theCephalic snufl‘.
In cases oflcatarrh, or what is commonly called
a cold in the head,a pinch or two taken at night
on going to bad, will, by moistening the mucus,
effectually remove all obstructions before morn-
ing. All those troubled with the hypochondria
or vapors, will find in this chemical preparation,
a complete antidote. During a tedious confine-
ment in a crowded house, or a warm atmosphere,
after a fatiguing walk, or a long ride, a pinch or
two of this snuff will by its grateful and enliven
ing qualities, richly repay the purchaser the
trouble of constantly having it in his pocket,-and
which, when well secured, will, for a long time,
answer all the purposes of a smelling bottlc.—-
From its great antiputrescent qualities, no com-
position is better qualified to resist contagion ; the
use of it therefore is indispensable for all those
who watch with, or visit the sick. All sedentary
and studious persons of either sex, will find by its
occasional use, a cheap and cheering relief from
that lassitude which invariably accompanies a
long sitting, or much reading. This snuff, the
fragrance of which is derived altogether from the
natural flavor of the principal articles of which it
is composed, is well stopt in a handsome square
bottle, tnade expressly for the purpose, and which
will be found to unite all the advantages of a snuff

Sir-—In answer to your letter containing an en-.,
umeration of the articles composing your snuff,
together with a sample ofit. l would remark, that
although I have found no reason for changing my;
well known opinion of the pernicious effects of
theinordinate use of tobacco, in any form, Inev-
ertheless cannot perceive the some objection to
yours. The-articles are certainly innocent In
their qualities. Those liable to nervous and oth-
er head-aches well know that fits of these dis-
tressing alfections, most commonly subside on ‘it
spontaneous sneezing towards night, and if this
reliefcan be expedited by a sternutatory, I should,
give the preference to your snulf over that of
powdered tobacco, or even the imported Ce/2/:ali€
Smmj; the ingredients of which are unknown to
us. With this view I have used your composi-
tion myself, and recommended it to others.
