unite those advantages as an elegant sternu-
tatory, which Tobacco, combined with other in- '
Scoth snuff is not only destitute of fine flavor,
transparency, and colour ofthe skin. The coarse
black snutfs, instead of clearing and stimulating
the olfactory nerves, serve but to obstruct and
deaden them ; and in process oftime, by stop-
ping the passages, has an evident effect upon the
speech. The Volatile-./Irornatic Smlfl, will, by ex-
perience, be found not liable totthese objections-—
its flavor is fragrant and delightful--the effect
pleasing and salutary--it opens and purges the
head-—-sensibly stimulates the spirits, and re-
moves that drowsiness which on somcoccasions
will pr'evail in spite of our utmost efforts to bafile
it. By repeated experiments, it is known to he.
i of essential service to those who are troubled with
long, dull", ‘nervoh's'head-aches, and will be found
far superior for thispurpose to theCephalic snuff.
In cases of catarrh, or what is commonly called
a cold in the head,a pinch or two taken at night
on going to bed, will, by moistening the mucus,
effectually remove all obstructions before morn-
ing. All those troubled with the hypochondtia
or vapors, will find in this chemical preparation,
a complete antidote. During a. tedious confine-
ment in a ciowded house, or a warm atmosphere,
alter a fatiguing walk, or a long ride, a pinch or
two of this snuff will by its grateful and enliven
ing qualities, lichly repay the purchaser the
trouble of constantly having it in his pocket, and
which, when well secured, will, for a long time,
answer all the purposes of a smelling bottle.—
From its great antiputrescent qualities, no com-
position isbctter qualified to resist contagion ; the
use of it therefore-is indispensable for all those
who watch with, or visitthe sick. All sedentary
and studious persons of either sex, will find by its
that lassitude which invariably ‘accompanies a
long sitting, ormuch reading. This snuff, the
fragrance of which is derived altogether from the
natural flavor of the principal articles of which it
is composed, is well stopt in a handsome square
bottle, made expressly for the purpose, and which
will be found to unite all the advantages of a snuff
Box.

umeration of the articles composing your snuff,
together with a sample ofit, I would remark, that
although I have found no reason for changing my
well known opinion of the pernicious effects of
the inordinate use of tobacco, in any’ form, Inev-
ertheless cannot perceive the same objection to
yours. The articles are certainly innocent in
their qualities. Those liable to nervous and oth-
er head-aches well know that fits of these dis-
tressing affeclions, most commonly subside on it
spontaneous sneezing towards night, and if this
relicfcan be expedited by a sternutatory, I should
give the preference to your snuff over that of
powdered tohacci), or even the ‘imported Ce/zlzalic
Snufy the ingredients of which are unknown to
us. VVith this view I have used your composi-
tion myself, and recommended it to others.
