In cases of catarrh, or what is commoply called
a cold in the hea‘cl,a pinch or two taken at night
~ on going to bed, will, by moistening the mucus,‘
. effectually remove all obs‘tructions before morn-
ing. All those troubled with the hypochondria
or vapors, will find in this chemical preparation,‘
a complete antidote; During a tedious confine-"
mcnt in a crowded house, or a xvargn atmosphere‘,
after a fatiguing walk,.or a long ride, a pinch or
two ‘of this snuff will by its gratefttl and enliv't'nl
ing qualities, richly repay the purchaser the
trouble of constahtly having it in his pocket, and
which, when well secured, will, for a long time,-
answer all the purposes of a_ smelling bottle.4-
From its great antiputrescent qualities, no com-
position is better qualified to resist contagion ; the
use of it therefore is indispensable for all those‘
who watch with, or visit the sick. All sedentaiy
and studious persons of either sex, will find by its
occasional use,‘ a cheap and cheering relief from
that lassitude which invariably accompanies a
long sitting. or much reading. This snuff, the
fragrance of which is derived altogether from‘ the
natural flavor of the principal articles of which it
is composed, is well stopt in a liandsoine-square
bottle, made expressly for the purpose, and which
will be found to unite all the advantages of a snuff

Sir-‘—In answerto your letter containing an en-
umeration of the articles composing your snuff,
together with a sample of it, 1 would remark, that
although I have found no reason for changing my
well known opinion of the pernicious effects of
the-inordinate use of tobacco, in any form, Inev-
erthelcss cannot perceive the same objection to
yours. The articles are certainly innocent in
their qualities. Those liable to nervous and oth-
er head-ac__hes well know that fits of these dis-
tressing affections, most commonlysubside on a
spontaneous sneezing towards night, and if this
relief can be expedited by a sternutatory, I ‘should
give the preference to your snuff over that of
.powd.<3red tobacco, or even the imported Cc/2/zalic
snap; the ingredients of which are unknown to
us. With this view I have used your composi-
tion myself, and recommended it to others.
