THE publisher begs leave to -submit to the
public the plan and accompanying statement of
the manner in which the work is to be executed.
Sensible that minuteness and accuracy ‘of detail,
constitute, in a publication of this description, its
principle ‘value, arrangements are made, involv-
ing a heavy expense, to have this work compiled
from original and out/zentic materials. It will
consist of two Parts.
V I. ./{Geographical and Statistical description of
the two states, exhibiting a view.of their general
and more prominent features, both physical and
' * artifical, climate, rivers, mountains, harbours,
manufactures, agricultural and mineral produc-
; tions, together with a compendious historical ac-
count, from their earliest settlements.
II. A general view of each county, with a min-
ute and topographical description, and statistical
view of each town, arranged in alphabetical or-
dcr, with the exception of the shire towns, which
.;tvill be ranked first in each county. The descrip-
ffibn of the towns will comprise an accurate ac-
" count of their dimensions, surface, quality of soil,
' and population, their Cl\'ll corporations, societies,
cities, boroughs, villages, and their institutions,
arts and improvements,‘ scminaries of learning,
randcommon schools, churches, banks, newspaper
establishments, post-offices, mercantile stores,

instances, a sttccincthistory of remarkable events,
stud notices of deceased eminent men.
The materials for the work will be collect-
-‘ ed by Dr. John C. Pease, and will be writtenwith
-the utmost care and impartiality by John M.
Niles, Esq. and submitted to the inspection of
the Secretary of the state of Connecticut.
The work will be published as soon as may be
consistent with what is due to the undertaking
and the public, and will comprise an octave of a-
bout 300 pages. It will be printed with a new
type, neatly bound, with an elegant, accurate,

I and approved map of each state, and delivered to
subscribers at Two Dollars and Fifty Cents, pay-

bers Commissioners to adjust and settle the
claims of the several creditors to the estate of
DA-NIISL DEAN, late of Ridgeficld, in said dis-

§4. Be ‘it further enacted, That in ftitiut-‘e the
Militia of this State, whether artillery, cavalry,
riflemen or infantry, shall be required to- attend
review by regiment or battalion as the Brigadier’:
of the several Brigades shall direct, once.-..in. two
years only, in the months of September or O‘c‘-
tober, in the’ manner ptiescribed .by lay-, any
thing in said act to the contrarynotwithstanding. .
§;5. Be-itfurtficr enacted-, That the Field gm.
1 ccrs of the several Regiments of Artillery, Cav-
alry, Riflemcn, and Infantry, shall divide their 2 A.

ofiicers in said Regiment, ‘and being so.divided,.“
each field ofiicer shall give notice to the captains
composing his section, of the time and place of
holding a Court for imposing fines, which court
shallbc holden in the month of Oct. annually, and
shall be held within the limits of eachcompany
in said section ; said field ofiicers-, ‘and the captain
of the company,'whose delinquents are to be tri-
ed, shall compose the board who are to vhear and.
determine the same; the field oflicer to have a
casting vote in case of division, and to have the
same power to issue his warrant for. the collect-
ing of fines so imposed, as is given to the com-
mandant, of a regiment by the act to which this

trary notwithstanding ;' ‘Provided’ the commiss-
ioned oflicers of --each company alone shall form
a board to hear and determine all cases of delin-
quency on days of company exercise; and that
the captain of each company shall have the same
power toissue warrants in such cases, as is grant-
ed to the field officers by this section ; and the
fines so imposed shall be applied for the benefit
of such company, in the same manner as is now
provided for the distribution of monies for the.
‘benefit of the regiments; and further provided,
that everyiperson so fined may appeal within
twelve days after notice thereof, to the board of
officers already provided by law.
§ 6. _Bc it further enacted, That it shall be the
duty of the commanding officer of each compa-
ny of infantry, to establish a place or places of
parade for their respective companies within the
limits thereof: and if a part of any company shall
consider themselves aggrieved by any such estab.
lishment, they may apply to the commanding of.

consisting of three disinterested captains belong-
ing to’ his regiment, to view at theexpence of the
applicants, the local situation of said company ;
first giving notice of the time and place of this
meeting for that purpose to the commanding ofli-I
cer thereof; ‘and such, board, after having viewed
' the local situation of said company, shall affix and
determine the place or places for their parade,
and make report in writing of their doings in the
promises to the commanding otiicer thereof, who
shall cause the same to be recorded in the order-
ly book of his company. ' ' ’

the collection of fines, shall be directed to acou-
stable of the town in which the delinquent shall
